These verses should help us to understand something about mercy, salvation and grace. We often come across these three words and tend to lump them together without necessarily seeing the different significance of each one. There’s another word that crops up in relation to mercy, salvation and grace and it’s not such a popular or positive word – and yet it’s because of this fourth word that the other three are necessary. That fourth word is “sin”. However, as we look at this next section of 1 Timothy chapter 1 (verses 8-17) what I’d like you to do is not to concentrate on the sin, but on God’s response to it – mercy, grace and salvation.
